Six outstanding seniors received $500 college scholarships from the Barber County Fair Association. The scholarships were presented by Pake McNally, fairboard president.

Garrett Burden is an 11 year 4-H member. Through the years, he has competed at state horse judging, horse panorama, district and state horse shows. Garrett plans to become a physical therapist one day.

Cole Coggins is an 11 year 4-H member plus a 4 year FFA member. He has served as club president and FFA chapter secretary. He has been very involved in 4-H beef and projects with South Barber FFA chapter.

Katie Holcomb was in 4-H for 8 years and FFA for 3 years. Katie is an honor roll student and involved in showing at spring shows as well as the Barber County Fair. She hopes to be employed by a bank working with farmers and ranchers one day.

Cody Jahay was in 4-H for 11 years and FFA for 4 years. He was both the Cloverleaf and South Barber FFA treasurer. Being the South Barber Livestock Judging Committee chair is among his 10 most significant activities. Jahay plans to pursue a degree in farm and ranch management.

Madie Marshall is a 12 year member of the Sunflower 4-H Club. She has been a camp counselor for three years. In 2016, she was on the third-place team at the National Meats Judging Contest. The team won the honor by placing first at state. Marshall has been the high individual at OSU's Big 3 Meats Contest. Her goal is to be employed in the reproduction aspect of the beef industry.

PREPPING HIS PIG – Carson Cargill of the Gyp Hill 4-H at Medicine Lodge herds his hog out on the fairgrounds in preparation to show the livestock in the show ring. This is but one of the many ways students get their animals ready for the judge's scrutiny.

Brandon Tillotson is a 12 year member of 4-H and a 4 year FFA member. He served as vice president, secretary and treasurer of his club. Among his 10 most significant activities is 4-H Day, Family Fun Night, FFA Pals and of course the Barber County Fair. He plans to work for John Deere as a service technician and run a small cow and calf herd.

Garrett and Brandon also received $300 scholarships from the Horse Club. This is the first year for these scholarships to be awarded. The Horse Club received a large gift that has enabled them to make improvements to the horse barn and start giving scholarships to graduating seniors.
