LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A homeless shelter in Lawrence says it plans to cut the number of people it serves by nearly half next month as it grapples with financial issues.
The Lawrence Community Shelter said Friday in a statement that "funding challenges" led to its decision to reduce capacity from 125 to 65 by Sept. 1.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports that board president Thea Perry also said it will cut the number of staff, but no specific number was included.
The shelter says it has informed guests and is working to find alternate arrangements, if possible.
