Campus detective fired for lacking response to teen's case

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Documents show that a University of Utah police detective who was criticized for mishandling a plea for help from a student who was later killed was fired after she failed to take action on a different girl's report.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday that Detective Kayla Dallof was fired in March after she was accused of immediately taking action when a 17-year-old girl reported that a university student she was dating had trapped her in his dorm room.

The girl played a voicemail to the detective of the student threatening to kill the teen.
