Mr. Stengel goes to Washington – part 3

As we have seen, baseball manager Casey Stengel was very witty. When he testified before a U.S. Senate subcommittee in 1958, he brought much laughter to the proceedings. We will look at that further in the last installment of this article.

Reporters loved Stengel because he was entertaining and gave them memorable quotes. On managing professional athletes, he said: “The secret of successful managing is to keep the five guys who hate you away from the four guys who haven’t made up their minds.”
