According to state election board unofficial returns from the Tuesday, Sept. 10, election, the two bond propositions for Freedom Public Schools failed to pass. In Oklahoma, school bond elections must have a 60 percent or 3/5 majority to pass. The returns will not be made official until 5 p.m. on Friday.

Proposition 1 had a two-vote margin in favor with 90 people voting yes and 88 no. Eight votes were absentee and seven were early voting. The remainder voted on Tuesday at polling places. This proposition was for $410,000 to construct, equip, repair and remodel school buildings, acquire school furniture, fixtures and equipment, and acquire and improve school sites.

Proposition 2 received only 88 votes in favor with 90 against. This proposition was for $470,000. It was intended for gym renovations.

This was the second school bond election to fail in Freedom. In the earlier election, the projects were lumped into one proposition. It was hoped by splitting the two propositions, at least one would gain support.
