September 12, 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Southern Nazarene University men's golf team entered play on Tuesday within striking distance at the GAC Preview. The Crimson Storm sat third overnight, entering the third and final round 10 strokes behind a tie for the lead between Southern Arkansas and Oklahoma Christian, and by the end of the day, they had climbed up the leaderboard again.

Will Coffman fired a final round 67 - the low round for SNU at the tournament - and Saxon Ross joined him in the sixties with a round of 69, as SNU (852) jumped over Oklahoma Christian to finish in second place at the Preview. The title was claimed by SAU, who maintained their 10 stroke advantage as they finished at 842.

Coffman played the round without recording a score higher than four on any hole, and as a result, he climbed 13 places on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 21st at 216. JD Pitts led the way for the week, finishing in a tie for third at 6-under par (210) after firing a final round 71. Ross also finished under par at 215, finishing in a tie for 17th, and Jacob Grellner and Ondrej Melichar finished tied with Coffman at 216.

SNU also had five individuals playing in the event, and that group was led by Zander Tway. Tway finished the tournament at 1-over par, shooting a 217 and finishing in a tie for 25th. Zac Banz tied for 42nd at 230, Ethan Johnson was 48th (234), Hayden Peek tied for 49th (236), and Taylor Ford shot a tournament total of 238 (T-54).

SNU will hit the road next week for their first road match of the season. The Crimson Storm will take part in the Northeastern State University Men's Golf Classic at Muskogee Country Club in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The event will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
