History of Alva Prisoner of War Camp to be presented at NWOGS meeting

The September Northwest Oklahoma Genealogy Society (NWOGS) meeting will be held at the Cherokee Strip Museum on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. Beth Smith, curator of the museum, will present the program on the history of the POW Camp in Alva from 1942 to 1945. The museum has two rooms devoted to the history of the Alva POW Camp.

Smith will discuss the exhibits in the two rooms. Many of the exhibits were donated by local individuals to help ensure this important piece of northwestern Oklahoma history will not be forgotten. During World War II, Nazis and Nazi sympathizers were held in the prison...
