For the past two years the Freedom School Cross Country team has been available to students in elementary through high school. Last Saturday some students on the team succeeded in Cherokee.

Elementary students Shay Wilson, Raegan Wilson, Alayna Tyree, Trenton Welty, Leo Estes and Xander Kirkpatrick all loaded up on Saturday morning and traveled to the Cherokee cross country event.

At all cross country events, high school boys will run three miles, high school girls and junior high boys run two miles and junior high girls along with all elementary students will normally run one. The students practice nearly every day after school by running a mile to a mile and a half across town.

Shay Wilson placed in cross country after finishing her mile in 29 minutes. Shay will travel to a state cross country competition in October. The cross country team also plans to participate in the NWOSU homecoming 5k at the end of October.

Assistant coach, Darci Immell, has enjoyed working and traveling with these students. "They all work really hard," Immell said. "I have definitely noticed that they have all improved."
