Dalton Hess comes up to stop the run play for a short gain.

Alva and Chisholm entered Friday night's game with equal records of 2-2, but it was soon apparent they were not on equal footing. Alva began the season with four seniors while the Longhorns have about five times that number. The Goldbugs were also hampered by the loss of two juniors. Nathan Hunt is out with a broken leg, and Kory Faulkner has an injured ankle.

Although Chisholm scored on every possession in the first quarter, the outcome was still in question as the Longhorns led 14-6 at the end of the first period. But Chisholm piled on 30 points in the second quarter while holding Alva scoreless. At the half Chisholm led 44-6.

Alva defense held the Longhorns to a couple of TD's in the third quarter. It looked like the Goldbugs would add another touchdown, but the pass into the end zone was picked off. The third period ended with Chisholm leading 57-6. In the final period, Chisholm brought in players from the bench. Alva kept them out of the end zone and managed to add another touchdown for the final of 57-12.

First Half

Alva began the game with possession of the ball but had to punt it away after three plays. Chisholm took over on their 22 and drove steadily down the field. Quarterback Kaleb Dent threw to Nate Edwards who ran the ball across the goal line. As the Longhorns set up for the extra point kick, Alva was flagged for being offside. With the ball moved closer to the line, the Longhorns switched to a conversion, and Bryce Boeckman ran for the two. Chisholm led 8-0.

Alva again had to punt the ball away after quarterback Kaden Slater was sacked on the third down.

The Longhorns got a big run from C.J. Bennett on a pass from Dent to put them in the red zone. In three more plays, they scored on a pass from Dent to Damien Rieman. The two-point conversion failed, and the Longhorns led 14-0.

With 1:30 left in the first quarter, Alva took possession of the ball. On the second play, Slater threw to Gavin Perez who found a wide open path to the goal. Following the 70 yard TD, Samuel Houston's extra point kick was a little low. Chisholm led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Longhorns began the second period with a big 34 yard touchdown run by Brady Gray. Alva earned a flag for encroachment as Chisholm set up for the PAT. With a position closer to the goal, the Longhorns successfully went for two. The score was 22-6.

On Alva's first possession of the quarter, a pass from Slater to Austin Reed was picked off. It took only two plays for Chisholm to score from the Alva 29 on a Dent pass to Rieman. The kick was good, and the Longhorns led 29-6.

Alva made little progress on their next possession and punted. From their 45, Chisholm drove to the Alva 18. Then Dent threw the ball to Gray in the end zone. The conversion was good, and the Longhorns led 37-6.

Alva started at their 28, and Dalton Hess ran for the first down in one play. After another small gain by Hess, Slater threw two incomplete passes. A low snap had Slater falling on the football for a loss of eight yards. The fourth down pass by Slater was tipped and incomplete.

It took only three plays for Chisholm to score again on a big 52 yard pass play from Dent to Cade Balenti. The kick was good, and Chisholm led 44-6 at the half.

Alva's Perez appeared to have a knee injury from playing defense and never returned to the game.

Second Half

Despite their scoring deficit, the Goldbugs didn't give up. They worked hard to hold the line in the third quarter. On Chisholm's second series, Rieman broke loose for a big run down to Alva's end of the field. In a couple more plays, the Longhorns were within five yards of the goal. Alva's Hess was trying to hobble off the field as Chisholm set up and didn't make it in time. Alva was called for illegal substitution, moving the Longhorns to the three yard line. From there Luke Balenti had a short run into the end zone. The point after kick failed, and Chisholm led 50-6.

Slater connected with Reece Martin who broke two tackles for a gain of 20 yards before he was brought down. Unfortunately, Martin was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, losing 15 yards. The Goldbugs completed the down on a run by Hess and a pass to Martin, putting them eight yards from the goal. Hess took a hard hit and was walked off the field for evaluation. He was sidelined the remainder of the game.

After an incomplete pass, Slater threw to Martin who was tackled out of bounds, earning a penalty for Chisholm. The ball was moved to the four. Slater tried a pass into the end zone, but it was picked off by Chisholm. It looked like it would be a 100 yard TD as no one tackled the Longhorn player. But a flag brought the ball all the way back to the Chisholm eight.

At this point, Chisholm was freely substituting from the bench. Junior Luke Balenti took over at quarterback. He started off carrying the ball for a big run near midfield. The Longhorns continued to work their way toward the goal, and Balenti ran the ball up the middle for the final nine yards and a TD. The kick was good, and Chisholm led 57-6.

Slater threw three incomplete passes to Martin, and Alva had to punt the ball away. After one Chisholm play that earned a false start flag, the quarter ended.

In the final period, sophomore Bryce Patton played quarterback for the Longhorns. On the fourth down, Patton was sacked by Martin.

Alva had the ball on the Chisholm 35. After making little progress, the Goldbugs had to punt.

Chisholm kept throwing passes, completing some of them. Soon they were at the Alva 18 but lost the ball on the fourth down.

With freshman Drake Wharton receiving passes and rushing, Alva moved to the 39. Then a Slater pass to Martin was picked off, the third interception by Chisholm.

Houston Lane now took the Longhorn quarterback spot. He was sacked for a loss then fumbled a handoff that was recovered by Alva's Chris Johnson.

From the Chisholm 31, Slater connected on a pass to Martin for the touchdown. The conversion attempt failed. The score stood at 57-12.

After the kickoff, Chisholm had time for one play before time ran out.
