Missouri deputy faces charges for shooting woman in back

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Jackson County sheriff's deputy has been charged with assault for shooting a woman in the back.

The Kansas City Star reports 29-year-old Deputy Lauren Michael was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The newspaper reports that the shooting occurred Aug. 8 in Kansas City when Michael tried to stop a man and a woman riding a scooter on the wrong side of the street.

The female rider fled. Michael caught up to the woman and shot her in the back.
