Spiritually Speaking, Warmth for Winter

October 11, 2019

We have entered that time of year that my Pop might have called “good sleeping weather.” I’m not a fan of severely cold conditions but crisp mornings and cool nights will do just fine.

The change in the temperature also reminds us that it’s time, once again, for our annual Warmth for Winter ministry to get cranked up. If you’re not familiar with this opportunity to share, it is hosted by the College Hill Church of Christ (corner of College and Olive – right across the street from Vinson Hall) and offers Alva and its surrounding communities the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need of warm winter clothing. Here’s how it works.

Just take a quick look through your wardrobe and set aside any warm articles of clothing you would like to share with another member of the community. Make sure they are in wearable condition (we don’t have the manpower to do repairs). Bring them to the east side of the College Hill building and look for the white trailer, parked beneath the awning. If the trailer is full, feel free to leave bags of clothing on the pavement behind the trailer and someone will retrieve them. On Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the family at College Hill will host a free store from which the people of Alva and the surrounding area can choose any items of warm winter wear they might find useful. The remaining items will be sent to the church of Christ in Luther where they will be distributed through that congregation’s free store.

Let me thank you, in advance, for another year of heartfelt giving. The Alva area is full of wonderful people, always willing to step up and help those in need; and we believe this year’s Warmth for Winter will be no exception. See you Sunday!
