The ultimate overcomer
October 11, 2019
You may have gone to the movie “Overcomer.” It tells a story of a young lady in high school who came from a dysfunctional home. She went through many hardships. She gave up on life and started going down the wrong road. She lived in a broken world and lived a broken life. Finally she met some people who invested in her life and turned her around. She worked hard and won the state championship in cross country because someone believed in her.
These people, also with great kindness and love, showed her how to become the ultimate overcomer in hardships and brokenness of her life. She allowed Christ to put her broken life back together and turn her life into a masterpiece of great elegance. Christ blessed her with a life far beyond her wildest dream and love past her comprehension.
In the book of Revelation, John uses the word “overcomer” many times. One of the major themes John deals with is the fact that we fight a war on many fronts dealing with evil and sin. We must defeat Satan with Christ’s help.
John writes these powerful words, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death” (Revelation 12:11). They willingly fought an all-out war and some paid with their lives. They defeated the devil, the world and their own carnal nature and won the ultimate victory through Christ.
You can win the victory in Christ as an overcomer and defeat all the forces that come against you, even your worst enemy: the devil. Praise God.
