Waynoka man injured in rollover

October 20, 2019

A Waynoka man was injured in a one-vehicle rollover Thursday in Woods County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reports Steven Blair Steffen, 36, of Waynoka, was transported by Air-Evac to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted to the hospital in stable condition with head and trunk injuries.

The wreck occurred at 10:41 p.m. Thursday on County Road 330 and Comanche Road, approximately two miles north and two-tenths mile east of Waynoka. Steffen was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Comanche Road. The OHP says Steffen was going too fast over a bridge, lost control and went off the roadway to the right. The vehicle continued through the ditch, struck a permanent fence and then a utility pole, rolling one time into the pasture. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels and then was driving away from the scene.

The report states the cause of the collision was unsafe speed for the type of roadway. The pickup was equipped with seatbelts but they were not in use.

Trooper Darrin Lancaster investigated assisted by Woods County Sheriff’s Office, Waynoka Police Department, Little Sahara State Park Rangers and Air-Evac.
