AMS students learn about prevention of underage drinking and enjoy trip to Menagerie

Alva police officers Buddy Shahan, Brian Fife, Ben Orcutt, Kris Franta, Sean Farris and Timothy Clapp had a great time getting lost in the hay bale maze at the Menagerie with 225 Alva Middle School students.

Woods County Coalition and Northwest Center for Behavioral Health provided an event to the Alva Middle School students aimed at the prevention of underage drinking.

Sarah Sherman LPC LADC and Charita McOsker LPC provided a presentation for all the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students over the dangers of underage drinking. They discussed the way the brain develops, and how the frontal lobe is typically fully developed at age 20, alcohol use prior to the full development of the frontal lobe can have lifelong consequences.
