Harding spoils Ranger homecoming 47-13

The Northwestern Rangers hosted the Harding Bison Saturday afternoon for homecoming. Although the score was close at the half, Harding shut out the Rangers in the second half for a final of 47-13.
Harding's Malik Mathews rushed for nine yards to put the first points on the board. The Grant Ennis kick was blocked by Aharon Barnes.
A showy play by the Rangers put them just a yard from the goal. Trent Easley flipped the ball to Torrence Stevens who then threw downfield to Kentrez Bell for a gain of 68 yards. The Rangers couldn't capitalize on the great field position, settling for a field goal by Conner O'Neal.
The Bison scored again with 2:20 left in the quarter on a Cole Chancey rush for one yard. The kick was good, and Harding led 13-3 at the end of the first period.
In the second quarter, Chancey rushed for 45 yards to score. The Ennis kick was good, and the score was 20-3.
With 3:25 left in the half, Easley connected with Bell for 25 yards and a Northwestern touchdown. O'Neal's kick was good to bring the Ranger total to 10.
Northwestern scored again just before the halftime break on an O'Neal field goal to make the score 20-13 in favor of the Bisons at halftime.
In the third quarter, Preston Paden rushed for six yards and a Bison TD. The kick was good. With seconds left on the clock, Ennis kicked a field goal. Harding led 30-13 at the end of three.
In the final period, Harding scored twice more on a 29 yard rush from Tristan Tucker and a seven yard rush by Robert Wilcke. Both point-after kicks were good. Ennis kicked another field goal to top off the game. The final was Harding 47, Northwestern 13.
Northwestern's Easley completed 9 of 26 passing attempts for a total of 139 yards. Stevens completed one pass for 68 yards. Bell was the leading Ranger receiver with four catches for 108 yards followed by Gavin Garner with two, Stevens with two and Raphael Edwards with one. Leading rusher was Jacob Peyton with 107, and Calion Baker was credited with five yards. Easley had a minus 11. Maurice Wright, Jr. had 25 tackles in the game followed by Nehemiah Lewis with 12, Marcus Brent with 10 and Juan Licea with 10.

Northwestern will host Oklahoma Baptist University next Saturday, Nov. 2, in a 2 p.m. kickoff at Ranger Field.
