October 30, 2019

Friday, Oct. 25, word quickly spread in Kiowa, Kansas, that Kristi Molz of Kiowa and her sister-in-law Cindy Molz Yandell of the Dallas, Texas, area were both critically injured in a pedestrian/Jeep accident on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

An article in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper had the story that day. The brief story follows:

“Two pedestrians are critically injured after a vehicle struck them while they were crossing Kuhio Highway in Kapaa early today, police said.

“A section of Kuhio Highway is closed as police investigate the crash that occurred shortly after 6 a.m. between Keaka and Hoi roads.

“According to a preliminary police investigation, a white Jeep was traveling south on the highway when it struck two pedestrians crossing the highway near the Ala Road intersection.

“The pedestrians were taken to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition. Police said the driver did not sustain any injuries.”

Monday, with a family member's permission, Peggy Mason posted an update on the Kiowa Connection Facebook page of which she is administrator.

Mason said the jeep that struck the women was a rental car driven by a male from Texas.

The two were crossing an intersection on their way to a yoga class when the car rounded a curve and hit them. Both women were taken by ambulance to the hospital where Cindy passed away later that day from her severe injuries. Kristi has many bone and internal injuries but is expected to recover. Ron Molz was in Hawaii with his wife Kristi and sister Cindy. Other family members have joined them. Mason said there will be a service in Kiowa for Cindy at a later date.
