Enjoy a visual feast during tonight's First Friday Artwalk

November 1, 2019

Angela Muller's beautiful textural paintings are inspired by earth and sky. This is a portion of Thunder Heads, one of Muller's paintings now at Graceful Arts Gallery in Alva. This eye-catching Monarchs painting by Larry Hill of Woodward is done on a selenite crystal slab mounted on an oak base. Several paintings by Hill including those on selenite crystals are displayed at Graceful Arts Gallery in Alva.

Art, music and a book signing are featured during tonight's First Friday Artwalk in Alva from 6 to 8 p.m. The Graceful Arts Gallery exhibit for November is titled "Gateways" and features Angela Muller, Larry Hill, Calvin Graybill and Ashley Frienberg.

Calvin Graybill of Alva is displaying a couple of his newest beautifully detailed paintings, one of which is featured on the front cover of this newspaper.

Angela Muller of Kansas is inspired by the earth and sky of the prairie surrounding her home. Her paintings displayed this month at Graceful Arts Gallery are wonderfully texturized abstracts that include layers of thick stone texture, iron oxidized to rust, acrylic, and earth elements like limestone, tree bark and plant ash. Muller will share her artist's talk "Spirits of the Prairie" from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Selenite crystals are a familiar and beautiful part of the local landscape. Larry Hill of Woodward takes them to a new level with his paintings on selenite crystal slabs. In addition, Hill has several paintings on canvas and wood displayed this month at the gallery.

Woods County author Sheldon Russell will be present for a book signing of his recently released A Forgotten Evil set in the American West just after the Civil War ended.

Alva's Freddy Riggins will provide musical entertainment. Refreshments will be served. Raquelita's Mexican Food and other vendors will be setting up on the sidewalk in front of the gallery. Graceful Arts is located on Barnes Ave. on the south side of Alva's downtown square.

Ashley Frienberg, NWOSU artist in residence, will have her work on display and for sale at The Runnymede, located on the northeast corner of the Alva square on 4th Street. Refreshments will be served there as well.
