Spiritually Speaking A closer look at Hebrews

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, “If you don’t understand the context, you don’t understand the scripture.” Like every other passage in our English Bibles, the letter to the Hebrews did not spring forth fully grown from someone’s thigh. It was composed in a singular time and place, by a certain author, for a definite reason. If we choose to ignore any of these indicators, we do so at peril of misunderstanding the text before us. However, having said that, we will soon discover that the letter to the Hebrews presents a bit of a problem.
