Three great moments in my childhood: John F. Kennedy is elected president, Neil Armstrong walks on the moon, and Ford beats Ferrari at LeMans.

From the 1910s when Henry Ford put a Model T in every garage, to the '30s when the flathead V-8 became legendary, Fords have been modified for racing. In 1963, Ford was having success on the NASCAR Circuit but Henry Ford II, known as “the deuce,” wanted a sports car. He approached Enzo Ferrari, known as “Il Commendatore,” with an offer of $10 million but Ferrari refused the terms, and the race was on.
