Harding: Women's Basketball Shows Dominance in 89-67 Win over No. 24 Angelo State

SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team made 12 3-pointers as it defeated No. 24 Angelo State 89-67 Friday in front of 1,620 elementary students.

It was Harding's first win over a ranked team since defeating No. 6 Emporia State 58-56 in the 2017 Central Regional Finals.

Harding improves to 3-0 overall.

Angelo State falls to 1-1 overall.

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Leading 11-10 with 4:19 left in the first quarter, Harding went on a 11-4 run to lead 22-14 at the break. The Lady Bisons made six 3-pointers in the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Angelo State battled back in the opening minutes of the second quarter and pulled within two 22-20 on a jumper by Dearria Watson. Harding answered back with a 10-2 run to lead 32-22 with five minutes left in the half. The Lady Bisons extended its lead to 17 with 1:09 left on a jumper by Jacie Evans. Harding led 44-30 at halftime. The Lady Bisons shot 52.9 percent from the field in the quarter.


THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Harding continued to build onto its lead in the third quarter and led by 30 points at the break. The Lady Bisons shot 56 percent and held Angelo State to only three baskets in the quarter. Harding outscored Angelo State 30-14.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

Angelo State scored the first eight points to open the fourth quarter. Amanda Kearney stopped the run when she hit a 3-pointer with 7:18 left. Angelo State didn't get any closer than 21 the rest of the way. Angelo State hit four 3-pointers in the quarter.

TEAM/INDIVIDUAL STATS

Kellie Lampo led Harding with 17 points and nine rebounds. Cheyenne Brown added 12 points and nine rebounds. Carissa Caples who played in foul trouble for the most of the game had 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Kylee Coulter came off the bench and scored 14 points and made four 3-pointers.


Harding made 33 baskets and shot 47.1 percent from the field. The Lady Bisons made 11-of-13 free throws.

Angelo State was led by Asia Davis who had 11 points. Catara Samuel had 10 points and De'Anira Moore had nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Angelo State made 22 field goals and shot 31.9 percent.

NEXT GAME

Harding will open Great American Conference play next week when it travels to Arkansas-Monticello Thursday for a 5:30 p.m., tip-off.
