Petunia Garden Club learns about garden bulbs

November 24, 2019

The Petunia Garden club met at Barbara Faulkner's home on Nov. 13, 2019, with Marilyn Davison as co-hostess.

Following refreshments President Betty McMurphy called the meeting to order and the Gardener Creed was read in unison. Roll call was answered to “What bulbs do you plan to plant?” Members present were Shirley Bellah, Barbara Case, Wanda Cox, Davison, Faulkner, Carole Grover, Cyndi Hosier, McMurphy, Carol Powers, Joanne Price, Eleanor Ring and Janet Wanger.

Ring gave the lesson "Find the Beauty of Bulbs." She showed several pictures of different kinds of bulb plants, including tulip, hyacinth, daffodil, iris crocus, amaryllis, cyclamens, begonia and dahlia. Ring said there are many varieties, some are earlier bloomers than others and some are more fragrant than others. She also mentioned when planting to remember to follow the guide on depth to plant.

Barbara Case won the door prize, a candle ring and candle.

The cleanup of the flower beds at the Cherokee Strip Museum has been completed for fall, and future projects were discussed.

For Christmas the club has decided to donate to the Wesleyan Food Bank.

The next Petunia Garden Club meeting will be Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m. for Christmas lunch at Carole Grover's Home in Byron.
