Freedom sales tax collections down 5.5 percent

The Oklahoma Tax Commission disbursed $155,875,478 in sales tax collections to cities and towns in November, up $5,593.522 from November 2018. Use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $21,253,925. In county returns, the counties shared in a $26,743,406 sales tax disbursement and a $4,419,896 use tax disbursement.

The November distribution of sales tax collections by the OTC primarily represents local tax receipts from September business.

Freedom with a two percent sales tax received $1,746.18 in November. That’s down about 5.5 percent from the 1,848.29 received the same month last year. However, the November total is up 28 percent from the October amount of $1,358.76.

Waynoka with a four percent sales tax received $57,496.99, which is about 50 percent higher than the $38,271.90 received last year and almost 23 percent higher than October’s collections of $47,179.32. November use tax collections were $7,322.51, up from $7,007.54 a year ago.

Alva with a 4.25 percent sales tax received $317,487.52 this month compared to $326,742.43 a year ago, a decrease of just below three percent. The amount is down 7.5 percent from the October 2019 collections of $343,330.48. Use tax was up 22.75 percent at $23,562.83 compared to $19,196.08 a year ago. Combined sales and use tax totals for Alva show a decrease of 1.41 percent this November from a year ago.

Woods County collects a half-cent sales and use tax. The November disbursement of sales tax was $77,862.16 compared to $107,331.17 a year ago, a decrease of 27.5 percent. However, this month was up 18 percent compared to October 2019 when the county received $65,995.02 in sales tax. Use tax collections were also down with $7,535.67 received this month compared to $8,997.69 a year ago.

Sales tax collections are the main source of revenue in most Oklahoma cities and towns.
