No duties, burdens or obligations

Matthew’s gospel presents this invitation from Jesus: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” This indicates that Jesus intends that the Christian life should not be a life of duties, burdens and obligations. In fact, just the opposite – Jesus says that Christian life is one of rest. However you may want to define the word rest, it’s certainly not work. The Apostle Paul confirms this idea. Writing to the Ephesians he says that the Christian life, which he refers to by using the word “saved,” is “not of yourselves” and “not of works.”...
