Always get a second opinion
December 1, 2019
Cleo recently spent over 20 days in two different hospitals. She had fallen and could not walk for several days. We started at Share and then Cleo was sent to St Anthony's in Oklahoma City for more tests.
The end results were scary for a bit. The stay at Share Medical Center was as pleasant as it could be. I had noticed before how dedicated the nurses are to the care of their patients but this time even more. Cleo needed to go up the food chain of doctors, and if it hadn't been for the perception and knowledge of an Alva nurse, we might not have moved quickly enough. There were several nurse-trainees from Alva's NWOSU nursing program helping. We have a lot of talented/caring ladies and gentlemen coming into the medical field soon.
At St. Anthony's she thought she would be on oxygen forever, but when they put the oxygen level tester on a different finger, her levels were like they had always been before the hospital stay. So no oxygen needed.
Sometime during her stay, Cleo was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Not good. We went to Cleo's regular cardiologist Wednesday, to see what needed to be done. After more testing, he came back with the good news that her heart was just fine. I have no clue what caused the tests to show the heart condition at the hospital, but I was sure glad we got a second opinion. (Thank you, Lord, for the help.) The nurses and staff at St Anthony's were very nice and helpful.
We lost two very talented nurses at Share while we were there. One lady moved to New Mexico, and longtime friend and Alva nurse Kathy (Dupy) Lyons moved to Montana for a while. I saw her standing in the snow and looking cold, but happy. I hope they both do well. Thanks to all the staff at both hospitals for caring.
I hope everyone had a fine Thanksgiving holiday. Through a comedy of errors/confusion, Cleo and I had Burger King, and Dad had barbecue potato chips for our Thanksgiving dinners.
Here comes Christmas. I have a plan. Let's combine Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We can have it on Thanksgiving Day, call it Halo Chrisgiving or Thanksmasween. Black Friday could be in July. Then on December 25th, we will all have fellowship, family gatherings and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus with no commercialism. I went to Walmart at the end of early Black Friday to get milk, and from the look of the carts I saw, TVs must have been cheap.
