Several resignations on Alva School Board agenda

December 1, 2019

It appears the Alva Public Schools will be looking for two new administrators for the next school year. Alva High School Principal Les Potter and Lincoln Elementary Principal Madison Williams have submitted their resignations effective at the end of the current school year.

Child Nutrition Director Verleta Eckels has given notice that she will be retiring at the end of the school year. IT Director Kaitlin Bouziden, who is a new mother, is resigning from her full time position but will continue to work a few hours a week until her contract ends in June so she will be available to help with the transition. Custodian Coley Beleele is resigning in January to further his education.

All of these resignations and retirements will be announced at the Alva Board of Education meeting to be held Monday at 5 p.m. at the superintendent’s office, 418 Flynn St.

Board members will discuss and vote on sanctioning a new organization, the Goldbug Education Coalition, to provide school supplies to children and teachers in the Alva school district. Eventually they hope to have enough funding to cover other needs such as lunches, coats and shoes.

The board will vote on next year’s school calendar as well as a contract with Wells Fargo Equipment Finance, Inc. for the lease of a 2017 Collins Bus.

The agenda includes a vote on an offer of employment for an non-certified position. There is also a vote on a revised extra duty salary schedule.

FFA sponsor Randy Nation has submitted a request for out of state travel for FFA members to attend the Kansas Beef Expo Judging Contest in Hutchison, Kansas, on Dec. 13.
