Keith Rathgeber retires after lifetime of fixing things – from vehicles to schools

A reception complete with cake, balloons and well-wishes from students was held to thank Keith Rathgeber for his service to USD#255 as Transportation and Buildings and Grounds Director. He and his wife Janie enjoy his retirement reception.

Chances are if you lived in the Kiowa, Kansas, area in the last 40 years, Keith Rathgeber probably fixed your vehicle if you hit a deer or had other bad luck. He worked at D&W Automotive 38 years and owned it since 1992. Due to an injury, in early 2014 he left the business in the hands of his brother Scott, who continues to operate the business today.

Shortly thereafter, Rathgeber accepted the role as transportation and building and grounds director at South Barber Schools in Kiowa. After holding the position five years, Nov. 26 marked Rathgeber's last day with staff and students at South...
