December 15, 2019

An Alva woman is facing two felony charges involving the purchase and sale of methamphetamine.

On Dec. 10 in Woods County District Court, Amanda Marie Leavitt, 22, of Alva, was charged with maintaining a place for keeping or selling controlled substance and violation of Oklahoma statute via computer. The first charge is punishable by a fine of not more than $10,000 and/or county jail imprisonment not more than five years and costs. The second is punishable by imprisonment for not more than five years or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both such imprisonment and fine.

Court records show Alva Police Officer John Caviness was contacted in February by an individual who claimed knowledge that Leavitt was making an arrangement for distribution of a large quantity of methamphetamine from her residence in Alva. Caviness made arrangements with the informant to set up a purchase of meth from Leavitt. The informant returned with a baggie containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for meth. It was weighed at 25.3 grams, recognized as a trafficking amount.

It was also learned from the informant that from Feb. 22 to Feb. 29, Leavitt made arrangements for the distribution of approximately 60 grams of meth with an estimated street value of $6,000. According to the affidavit, Caviness also learned Leavitt had a contact identified as “AUNT” in western Oklahoma involved in trafficking large amounts of meth and heroin. Caviness obtained several text messages that Leavitt sent and received which detailed her involvement with “AUNT.”
