Northwestern scholarships get a boost of $29,457 in GivingTuesday campaign

December 22, 2019

For the fifth consecutive year, the Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association participated in the global online GivingTuesday campaign to raise funds for student scholarships through its annual giving program, RISE (Rangers Investing in Students & Education). A total of $29,457 was given by generous advocates of Northwestern, including a $20,000 anonymous donation.

In the last four GivingTuesday campaigns, more than $279,000 in funds were raised to support the goals and dreams of Northwestern students. A goal of 100 donors was set; 35 donors gave during the month-long campaign. Donor affiliations included alumni, parents, faculty/staff and friends of Northwestern.

“While we did not reach our goal of 100 donors, I am pleased with our GivingTuesday campaign for 2019,” said Skeeter Bird, CEO, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association. “Any time we raise almost $30,000 for student scholarships, it is a win for students and the university. We have internally discussed dropping this goal, but we feel we must maintain the goal of 100 donors until we achieve it. We expect online platforms are where our younger donors will begin their giving relationship with the University, so we believe it is important to keep GivingTuesday with our online presence a priority.”

Each gift is added to the endowment of the donor’s choice. If no choice is made, the funds go to the general endowed scholarship fund, RISE. Each gift supports Northwestern students in their pursuit of higher education.
