While the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., has much control over the lives of all Americans, the same is true – to a somewhat lesser extent – for other governmental entities, specifically at the state and local levels.

Most of us went to schools operated by local school boards with funding coming primarily from state governments. We drive on state highways, county roads and city streets. We are taxed at the state and local (as well as the federal) levels.
