Billy Wardrop

Billie Dee, son of Marie (Oglevie) and Jim Wardrop was born on March 10, 1935, in Freedom, Oklahoma. He passed away in Houston, Texas, on January 9, 2020, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 30 days.

He spent his youth on a farm west of Freedom and attended a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade then went to Freedom High School where he graduated with the Class of 1953. After graduation he attended Northwestern State College in Alva for two years.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. He spent his army time in Tokyo Japan in the far East Map Service from 1956 until 1959.

After he was discharged he returned to Northwestern University to complete his education and graduate in 1961 with a degree in drafting. He met his wife Margie Gebhart in August 1962 on a blind date and was engaged in two weeks and married five months later on February 2, 1963. They had a son, Mark Arron Wardrop, on February 11, 1966.

He loved country music, cars and watching cars racing. He also enjoyed building guitars, leather craft and spending time with his family. While in Japan, he was in a band that played and was broadcast to every military base in Japan. He also had a band in college. Bill was a soft-spoken man, he accepted Christ and was baptized in 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ella Grace Bradt; two brothers, Basal and Foy; and a nephew, Doyal.

Bill went to be with God at 9:45 a.m. January 9, 2020, leaving his wife Margie; son Mark, daughter-in-law Charlene and granddaughter Sarah; two brothers-in-law James and Jerry and their family; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
