KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City police say a homeowner shot and killed someone who he thought was acting suspiciously outside his home.

The shooting occurred Thursday morning in south Kansas City. Police say officers in the area heard the gunshots. The homeowner told officers he heard activity outside his home. He said he fired several shots at a person who was not supposed to be there, The Kansas City Star reported.

That person was found dead outside the home.

Police say the homeowner is cooperating with investigators.
