Head-on collision results in double fatalities

A head-on collision in Major County Sunday resulted in the death of both drivers. Pronounced dead at the scene were Wanda Jo Brawner, 61, of Fairview, and Shelene Rhea Whiteshirt, 47, of Seiling.

A passenger in the Whiteshirt vehicle, Brandon Jay Benton, 44, of Seiling, was transported by Major County EMS to Fairview Regional Hospital and later transported to Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal, arm and leg injuries.

The wreck occurred at 7:24 p.m. Jan. 26 on US60 approximately one-tenth mile east of County Road 2480 and approximately seven miles west of Fairview.

According to the highway patrol report, Brawner was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze westbound on US-60. Whiteshirt was driving a 2018 Dodge Journey eastbound on US-60. As the vehicles met, Brawner’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the Whiteshirt vehicle.


Trooper Trent Cagle investigated assisted by Troopers Joshua Byrd, Jason Burch, Sammy Lee and Wyatt Wulf along with the Major County Sheriff’s Office, Major County EMS, Fairview Police Department, Fairview Fire Department and Major County Fire Department.
