KDH end-of-year facts; update on new addition

February 5, 2020

Kiowa District Hospital Board of Directors President Pat Myers called the regular meeting to order at 7 p.m. Jan. 28, at the KDH lobby. Board members present were Miranda Allen, Chantae Simpson, Jeff Miller and Jim Parker, along with Janell Goodno, CEO/CFO; Chief of Staff Dr. Paul Wilhelm; Tara Girty, business office manager; Krisgina Fossoh, Manor DON; Philip Anton, operations/IT director; Judy Schrock, foundation president; and members of the public.

Reporting on the progress of the Wellness/Physical Therapy and Behavioral Health Building addition, Goodno said they've sent a draft to the USDA for loan approval. They won't do it without interim financing. Goodno said the Alva State Bank and Trust Company is willing to provide the interim financing. The board approved the motion to go with Alva State.

The gym part will be 600 square feet, which is larger than the entire PT room is now. The area will have higher ceilings and more natural light. There will two bays areas and a private room for traction and many rooms for numerous functions. Barber County Health will use a space two Mondays per month. There will handicapped-accessible restrooms, group therapy, private offices, a room for the foundation, storage, staff training, board meetings, a mother's/lactation room, and multi-purpose rooms. “Space we didn't realize we needed six years ago (when building the new hospital).”

There will be a dual entrance because of outpatient service and dietary services, etc.

KDH Reports

In the CEO report, Goodno said she and Anton have looked at the Manor kitchen to see how they can be more efficient, adding “our dietary person will be back next week and we want her input.” They need a portable freezer with a cost of $10 to $14,000. The board will talk about it at the February meeting.

Goodno said that the kitchen does not need all new cabinets – just some.

The hospital is having an audit this week and it will be presented at the Feb. 11 board retreat.

At the Manor, Fossoh needs CMAs and CNAs. Brandy McKitrick is the new QAPI manager for the hospital and manor.
