Lawrence discussing limiting police work with immigration

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Lawrence city officials are discussing a draft proposal that would limit how police interact with federal immigration agents.

The Lawrence police department has written a draft policy that says local police will not help hold a person based only on whether that person has a federal immigration detainer. It also says police will not stop, question or arrest someone based only on their suspected citizenship or immigration status.

The topic arose last year when a group called Sanctuary Alliance suggested Lawrence become a sanctuary city, meaning police don't enforce requests...
