Man accused of attacking Shawnee County guard going to trial

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A man who allegedly attacked a Shawnee County corrections officer in 2019 will go to trial in June, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said.

Ray Anthony Miles, 56, is scheduled for trial beginning June 9 on first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery and battery against a corrections office, Kagay said Monday, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

Prosecutors allege Miles attacked the female corrections officer on July 31, 2019, and tried to stab her several times with a pen before he was restrained by other officers. The officer was treated and released...
