As we saw previously, Henry Brown devised an unprecedented way to escape from slavery. He successfully shipped himself in a wooden crate from Virginia to Pennsylvania.

Thereafter, despite all of the heartaches he had endured as a slave, Brown (who now called himself “Henry Box Brown”) was able to live a long and interesting life.

Brown had a gregarious personality. He decided to use that and his escape story to make a living. This entailed creating a stage act that he performed numerous times.
