City of Alva begins search for manager

In a special meeting Wednesday, March 4, the Alva City Council passed Resolution 2020-001. The resolution outlines the hiring procedures for the city business manager.
The resolution calls for directing Oklahoma Municipal Management Services (OMMS) to advertise the position with the City Management Association of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Municipal League, the Texas Municipal League, the International City/County Management Association, and any other appropriate online city management websites.
An application deadline of Monday, April 13, 2020, or until filled is established. Applications are to be submitted to OMMS in Tulsa. Council members will work individually and collectively with OMMS to review all applications received and determine an appropriate number of qualified candidates to interview, according to the resolution. The council has established a goal that the hiring process be complete by May 29, 2020.
Qualifications listed for applicants include a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance or closely related field and five years’ experience in public administration including three years at a department head or division manager level or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The two-page job description lists the numerous duties of the city business manager. Among those is directing and managing the functions of the city while being ultimately responsible to the city council and the public for all actions of the City of Alva.
