The Millwood Lady Falcons, ranked third in 3A, handed the fifth-ranked Alva Ladybugs their second loss of the season Friday night, 55-38. Millwood advanced to the state playoffs while Alva went on to face Chandler Saturday night in a win or go home situation. The Class 3A-1 area games were held Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City. If the contest had been decided on size of the cheering section, Alva would have been the clear winner.

In the beginning, the Ladybugs had trouble shutting down Millwood's Cymirah Williams who scored 12 of the Lady Falcon's first quarter points. Millwood led 18-14 after the first eight minutes of play. Alva adjusted in the second quarter, holding Williams to just one point. The Ladybugs scored 15 points while Millwood was held to six for a halftime score of 29-24 in Alva's favor. However, at that point, leading Ladybug scorer Payton Jones had accumulated three fouls.

At halftime, Jones and Lexie Reihm led the Ladybugs with eight points each. Rianna Clark had five, Acacia Charles four, Chloe Durkee three and Brooke Perez one. Reihm had nine rebounds, Perez eight and Jones six. Williams dominated the Millwood scoring with 13.

The Ladybugs were cheered on by a huge crowd, along with the Alva students in their own cheering section.

A recharged Millwood team took control of the floor in the third quarter, scoring 20 points while Alva made just five, all by Jones. Trying to get the ball, Jones fouled once more. Although the Ladybugs continued to fight, they just couldn't get to the basket. The score was 44-34 in favor of Millwood going into the final quarter. Very early in the fourth, Jones fouled out. With her out of the picture, Millwood concentrated on shutting down the other Ladybug scorers. Alva managed only four points in the last quarter while the Lady Falcons played keep-away and scored ten for the final 55-38.

Alva scoring was led by Jones with 13 followed by Reihm with eight and Clark with seven. Charles had five, Durkee three and Perez two. Alva was plagued by a total of 23 turnovers.

Williams led the Lady Falcons with 19 points followed by Taliyah Gramling with 15. Syncere Harrod had seven, Alysia Pickett and Nkale Cramer five each, Aniya Brown three and Areah Brown two.

In Thursday Area 1 playoffs, Prague defeated Crooked Oak 58-36 and Chandler beat Chisholm 47-38. Prague and Chandler met at 1:30 p.m. Friday with Chandler winning 46-35.

The winner of the Saturday night Alva vs Chandler game will advance to the state quarterfinals while the loser is finished for the season.
