Children are frequently asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Fourth and fifth grade students at Lincoln Elementary in Alva probably have some new answers. Wednesday morning, March 11, adults from a variety of backgrounds filled the kids in on their jobs.

The Career Exploration Day was arranged by Ilene Littlefield, school counselor. From 8:30 to 11 a.m., groups of students and their teachers moved from room to room for the opportunity to hear each of the speakers.

Students learned more about several medical fields, retail business, agriculture, banking, oil and gas and law enforcement. The students came away with a better understanding of what's involved in different lines of work, and some clues about what might interest them.

Those speaking included Randy and Mary Hamilton from Alva's Marker, Magen Lehr from Alva State Bank, Tim Ohm who spoke about agriculture, Sally Eggleston from Holder Drug, Jordan Ross who is a physical therapist, Paige Kruckenberg, PA from Share Medical Center, Teresa Seibert from Wal-Mart, Andy Ferguson of Sandridge Energy, Amanda Stauffer who is a respiratory therapist and Tony Robinson who is a deputy sheriff from Major County.
