Wheatland Republican Women learn about swimming pool plans

March 15, 2020

The Wheatland Republican Women met at noon on March 4 at The Runnymede in Alva. Meagan Caldwell, chairman of the Alva Pool Task Force, presented the program on the Alva swimming pool project. Other Task Force members are Greg Baker, Renae Green, Jaclyn Ruhl, Paul Barton, Ric Towns, and Scott Brown. The task force has been handing out surveys to members to get their input and have been meeting with towns people to get an idea on what they want regarding the pool.

To reduce costs, local citizens, contractors and skilled workers have been doing some of the necessary preliminary work to fix the existing pool. This will be a short-term remedy until enough funds can be raised to put a permanent plan into place. The work will need to pass an inspection by the health department in order to open the pool hopefully this summer. Task force members may be contacted by email at [email protected].

Following the program, the minutes of the previous meeting were approved and a treasurer's report was given. Members agreed to present a $250 scholarship to the winner of the annual essay contest to attend a school of their choice and also to sponsor a Girl's State scholarship.

President McDermott invited members to attend the Community Coffee to be held on April 17 at McDermott & Associates.

The next meeting of Wheatland Republican Women will be held at noon on April 1 at The Runnymede.
