Austin Rankin, a senior at Waynoka Schools, paged for State Rep. Carl Newton (R-Cherokee) the week of March 9-12, 2020, at the state Capitol.

Rankin is the son of Debra and Dustin Rankin.

His plans after high school are to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in political science with a pre-law option. He wants to work in a political field, build a financial base and then attend law school where he hopes to become a public defender or practice criminal law.

Rankin's community service projects include Change for Change, Ronald McDonald Pull for Kids, Waynoka 4-H community Easter egg hunt, Waynoka Community Sunshiner Dinner, Waynoka FFA Santa Day decorations and rodeo ground clean-up, and Waynoka Band Veterans Day program.

For hobbies, Rankin said he loves to read. He plays the tuba, and he has sung in a choir. He deeply enjoys public speaking and loves making friends and socializing.

Extra-curricular activities include FFA, Student Council, band, choir, football, powerlifting, track and field and Academic Bowl.

Rankin's personal achievements include 4-H Blue Award Group, Principal's Honor Role, Waynoka FFA Star Greenhand, State 4-H ambassador, state 4-H reporter, Woods County 4-H outstanding member, Woods County 4-H Hall of Fame and first chair tuba.

Rankin said his proudest achievements include serving as state 4-H reporter. His life goals are to be a leader in his community, country and world and to affect the lives of multiple youth across the state through leading by example.

House pages run messages to legislators while they are in the chamber debating policy and voting on measures. Pages also participate in a mock session, in which they learn legislative procedure and how to write legislation.

"Austin already has quite a list of accomplishments," Newton said. "It is always great to see such drive and enthusiasm in our next generation of leaders. I know Austin will be successful in his future, and I appreciate his willingness to serve others."
