The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Alva Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is temporarily suspending all services and meetings as directed by church leaders in Salt Lake City. The temporary closures are in response to the Covid-19 threat. Members are encouraged to continue gospel study at home with their families, using the Come Follow Me for Individuals and Families manuals.

The church has also made changes to spring General Conference, which is scheduled for April 4-5. Only the Tabernacle Choir and general authorities scheduled to speak will be allowed into the Conference Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Audience members should plan to view the conference at home via the internet at churchofjesuschrist.org, BYUtv.org (also available on some satellite systems) or the church's Youtube channel. In the past, this broadcast has been available at the Alva building, but this will also be suspended. The meetings are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. both days. The Saturday night meeting is at 7 p.m. All times are CDT.

The church has canceled General Conference only once in its history and that was in October 1957 during a severe flu outbreak. Technology advances have allowed the twice-yearly conference sessions to continue without cancellations since then as they are broadcast via satellite to church buildings around the world and more recently on the internet.

The church has also temporarily closed all public spaces and buildings on historic Temple Square in Salt Lake as well as temples throughout the world, including the Oklahoma City Temple. The weekly Tabernacle Choir broadcasts will continue, but no audiences will be allowed to attend either the weekly practices or performances. These can also be viewed online Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
