An administrator at Northwestern Oklahoma State University once told me that NWOSU was the primary thing that distinguishes Alva from other small-town county seats in this part of our state.

Certainly it is true that Alvans are privileged to reside in a college town. Besides numerous cultural and athletic events occurring on a regular basis, people who live here have easy access to higher education that most Americans do not have.

Many people who want to become college students have to move (at least temporarily) in order to avail themselves of a post-high school education.
