City of Alva outlines response to governor's order

 


The City of Alva has posted the following statement:

In observance of Governor Stitt’s amended Executive Order on COVID-19 response affecting all 77 Oklahoma counties, the City of Alva is instructing citizens to observe all guidance and restrictions, effective midnight April 2, 2020.

Under the Governor’s order, travel is restricted for all citizens, except as needed for individual health, safety, and well-being.

Gatherings of more than 10 people are restricted.

City parks and green spaces will remain open, but all playground apparatus, tables, benches and other park facilities shall be off limits as these have surfaces that will not be able to be disinfected.

Social distancing of six feet or more is outlined in the Governor’s order.

Public schools have been encouraged to act accordingly with their playgrounds.

The Governor’s executive order restricts operation of nonessential businesses.

Many Alva businesses are considered essential businesses. Essential businesses may continue to operate; owners are encouraged to implement measures to ensure proper disinfection, social distancing, and limited occupancy to the best of their abilities.

Restaurants are restricted from on-premises dining, but may continue carry out, drive thru and delivery options.

All businesses are encouraged to pursue assistance from governmental programs in order to ensure continued operations throughout this pandemic and afterward.

As far as enforcement is concerned, Alva Police and Code Enforcement departments will be encouraging compliance and educating citizens on a case by case basis. The Governor’s order does however carry the weight of law and excessive violations could experience misdemeanor charges with up to a $750 fine per offense.

City services will otherwise continue as outlined in the Mayor’s Proclamation from March 20, 2020, except when it conflicts with the Governor’s Executive Order.

Presently there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Woods County. We hope and pray it stays that way, however we are prepared in the event that local conditions should change.
