Every day is a new plan

Announcement: The Alva Police Department wants you to know that running from them is not social distancing!

It almost looks like an episode of the Twilight Zone with all the closed businesses and loafing places.

The Governor is on daily trying to reassure all of us and get people to take this seriously. Some people, like my brother Jack, are hunkered down for the long haul. Others are not paying a lot of attention to it all. I am kind of in the middle. I am still getting out and running the salvage, but I am careful to keep washing up and not get too friendly with others. No handshakes for a while for me.

I miss my friends Max Faulkner and Bob Keele every day, but if they were here now, it would be tough on them. Max never met a hand he wouldn't shake, and he and Bob both were huggers. Let's all be safe out there because it will get worse before it gets better.

I seem to need things every day from Walmart and Alva's Market. I try to not get real close to others and wipe down the carts. At Walmart, they have put blue squares on the floors to mark the six-foot rule. I thought they were for a game of hopscotch until someone told me differently. They have crime scene tape guiding you inside. They are serious because two guys got run out trying to go in by the out doors.

Cleo had been after me to get more toilet paper every time I drove by a store. I had enough to last a while, but to keep her happy when I found a pack at Walmart, I purchased it. I was going to wrap it up and give it to her as a gift but was afraid she would put knots on my head, and besides, there isn't anyone here to enjoy the opening with me. She mentioned that she hoped it wasn't single ply, like I had a choice. I will have made the rolls double-ply in a day or two.

One day the week before last someone delivered a bag with goodies in it like bananas, oranges, candy, etc. Cleo called to tell me about it and said it was from the bank. I thought that it was nice of my bank to do this, but when I got home, it was from Alva State Bank. I thought it was for my son that does some banking there until I ran into an Alva State girl at Walmart and she asked how I liked the stuff. Thanks to the Alva State Bank for the good stuff.

On the subject of thanks, thanks to healthcare people, police, firemen, ambulance personnel, pharmacy folks, food services, grocery people, truck drivers. truck loaders, bank officials, food services, senior citizen and public school food preparers, anyone I missed, and many other Americans going above and beyond for the rest of us.

People are mad about not being able to go places. PLEASE. I was grounded about 90 percent of the time between the 7th and 12th grades. I trained for this.
