Topeka police investigate man's shooting death

TOPEKA, Kan. undefined

A 28-year-old man has been fatally shot in east Topeka, police said.

Officers were responding to a call Saturday night about shots being fired and a vehicle crash when they found the body of D'Angelo L. Payne, Lt. Ron Ekis said.

The circumstances of the homicide and vehicle crash have not been released. No arrests have been made.

Kansas prison records show Payne had been on parole after serving time for aggravated robbery and making a criminal threat, both committed in 2011, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

Payne was on the May 7 criminal assignment docket in Shawnee County on charges that included felony drug possession, which were filed after his arrest in December.
