State legislators for Woods County were unopposed in election filings held Wednesday through Friday, April 8-10. Representative Carl Newton of Cherokee, a Republican, was the only candidate filing for District 58. Senator Casey Murdock of Felt, also a Republican, was unopposed in District 27.

Senator Roland Pederson of Burlington drew an opponent from Enid, David M. Mason. Both are filed as Republicans so that election will be determined in the June 30 primary.

Cherokee resident Harold D. Spradling has filed on the Republican ticket for the Corporation Commission against Republican incumbent Todd Hiett of Kellyville. Todd Hagoplan of Bixby has filed on the Libertarian ticket for that office.

Congressman Frank D. Lucas of Cheyenne drew a Democrat opponent, Zoe Midyett of Wellston for the District 3 seat in the House of Representatives.

Jim Inhofe’s U.S. Senate seat will be hotly contested. The Republican senator drew four Democrat opponents, four Republican opponents, and two Independent opponents. One Democrat opponent, Sheila Bilyeu, lists two addresses. One is in Arizona and the other is Freedom, Oklahoma.

The primary election will be held June 30 with a runoff set for Aug. 25. The general election will be Nov. 3.
