Instructions for overcomers

April 17, 2020

Corona, corona, corona, covid-19, we are all going to die. This is the end. Wow! Are you tired of it yet? I am!

A question for you who name the name of Jesus as your savior.

Is your faith growing in the season of Corona or are you becoming more discouraged, anxious and fearful?

Spiritual growth in times like these is difficult! I do understand. But I would also say it is mandatory in times like this! The war against your mind is real. The greatest mental warfare this generation has seen is happening right now! What does tomorrow hold? Will I get this virus? Will my family be safe? Will my business survive?

There are those who do better than others with the mental pressure, but we all go through the challenges it presents.

I read a plea today from a seasoned blogger and podcaster about calling your friends who are isolated. Those who struggle with depression are struggling more than ever. Those who have lost jobs: “What will I do? My company isn’t considered 'essential' at this time.”

Other people are people-people! They are dealing with overwhelming anxiety. Somebody to talk to would make a huge difference. Call your friends, make sure they are ok.

Sage advice: Watch less news!

Daily news reports about infections and death tolls can keep you up at night. There are many people who can’t sleep for the fear and the what ifs. They feel their forehead: “Am I getting a fever?” No, your temperature is normal, but your worries are making you sick!

Stop focusing on the negative! I asked Siri this: How many people die every day in America? Answer: Approximately 7,500 people die a day, every day of every year in America! Wow, don’t dwell on that! Add to that number the 2,261 abortions per day and we are really close to 10,000 people per day die in the USA (2019 numbers, nothing to do with Corona).

Please note: 10,000 plus are born every day in the USA as well.

My point: Stop focusing on death! It is a part of the mental war going on right now to produce fear, anxiety and worry. Unfortunately, it’s working!

The “What if it’s me?” scenario is producing its desired effect in our culture. We are giving up our freedoms over fear!

“Why should I choose to think differently in this hour in which we find ourselves?” Because it will lead you down a path that you may not recover from!

Church, Christians, we should dwell on life; we should dwell on the blessings!

Does death touch us all? Of course, and we hate it, but we deal with it, we learn to move on as we grieve over loved ones, friends who pass away, accidents way before their time.

We do not dwell there though, we don’t live there; it becomes mental sickness, will shut us down if we do. Those mental issues are very real in our society. People who refuse to fly because someone they know died in a crash, people who refuse to swim because a loved one drowned. Many things could be added to the list. People live with their life controlled by their phobias. Sad.

What is healthy church? To not live in fear, to live with purpose, to live with direction and confidence! The sun really will come up tomorrow!

The spiritually mature mind says, “I have hope, I will not live in fear, I will use wisdom, I will be prudent in my actions, I will be safe but I will not live as a recluse. I will not separate myself from the world for fear's sake.”

As I read God’s Word, It is very clear that fear is not in His plan for us! To live there is a choice we have made for ourselves. In fact, God intends to turn us all into overcomers! That is His intent! Believe it!

He gives us the tools to live above fear, worry and anxiety. This should be very fresh on our hearts and minds as we come to the close of Passover celebrations and resurrection celebrations all across the land.

In the book of the Revelation, chapter 12 and verse 11, it is very clear that those who went before us overcame because they understood some things that possibly we have forgotten.

Verse 11 reads, “And they overcame him (referring to Satan), because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.”

Listen carefully, Christian: The enemy plots, plans and schemes, but it is the will of your heavenly Father for you to overcome! His intentions for you have not changed.

The blood of the Lamb has been provided so that you and I can be overcomers.

The blood of Jesus, shed on that now-empty cross, was there for multiple reasons, one of which is to produce an overcomer out of you and me.

We are overcomers by the blood, redeemed by the blood, sanctified by the blood, brought near by the blood, given peace by the blood, justified by the blood and several other wonderful blessings. (There is a New Testament scripture on each of these, look them up.)

The blood is also about a new Covenant. Covenant is a binding agreement. He gives us everything He has, we give him everything we have. It’s a great agreement for us, not so good for Him, but wow, He is the one who set it up that way. Rejoice!

We are Covenant partners and overcomers because of the blood. Matthew 26:28 says, “for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”

There is a powerful verse in Hebrews 10:29 that says, “Don’t trample on the blood of the covenant by disregarding its power or its authority in the spirit realm!”

The Blood is powerful! The Covenant it produced is powerful!

When you are facing off with an enemy, who you are in covenant with matters.

The blood becomes a powerful weapon. When we remember as we take communion, this wine, this grape juice, it represents the blood of Jesus given that I might walk and live as an overcomer! I receive every benefit offered in my covenant with him as I take communion.

At our house, we verbally apply the blood to our hearts, we apply the blood to our home, we apply the blood for our safety, we draw in the spirit realm a blood line around our house, a blood line around our children! We boldly declare, with our mouths filled with faith in what He has done for us, you enemies may not cross here!

There is a story in the Bible in the old Covenant that is a reminder of the power of knowing who you are in covenant with. It is found in 1 Samuel 17. Go back and read it. It will encourage you. Rename Goliath “Corona!” Allow David to be you.

All of Israel had forgotten who they were in covenant with. But when David, a 17-year-old shepherd boy arrived on the scene, everything changed. The difference was his faith in his Covenant Keeping God!

Corona fell!

Corona virus had been yelling at them and had convinced them that they were the Sons of Mere MEN.

They had forgotten they were the Sons of the Most HIGH God! They were in covenant with almighty God.

Corona said, “Handle it like a man!” But along comes a shepherd boy, not a soldier, but just a boy, but a boy who knows the power of blood covenant!

“I will fight Corona! You come with your fear, your words of death potential, but I come in the Name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel; this is not Saul’s army, this is not an army of men, this is God’s army, and this day the earth will know there is a God in Israel ….”

Corona fell!

Pastor, that’s not what this is about!

It’s not? I believe it is; it is time for a church to rise up with some faith and confidence in their hearts. Faith in the Name of Jesus, faith from the Promises that you read, and faith in the blood of Jesus as an overcoming weapon in your arsenal!

Thank God for the Blood of His perfect sacrifice that makes overcoming possible for all who will believe and receive. Take communion at your house today and say, “I am an overcomer!”
