TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas' Republican attorney general says the most recent state of emergency that Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly issued for the coronavirus pandemic is "legally suspect," calling into question orders she's issued this month and her plan for reopening the economy.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt's opinion came hours before the GOP-controlled Legislature reconvened Thursday for a final day in session this year after a long spring break.
