Freedom's American Legion elects new commander, adjutant

• Meeting to be held on upcoming events

Due to the pandemic, the American Legion Hatch-Vincent Post #63 in Freedom held its officer elections via mail-in votes. Valerie Brown is the new post commander and Bruce Stansberry is the new adjutant. Taren Earnest has served the Legion as adjutant since 2017 and has made an outstanding finance officer, helping the Legion members and members of the auxiliary keep the Legion Hall open and running efficiently for the last four years.

Although the pandemic has prevented recent meetings, members of the Legion have been active making much needed grocery runs for those who should not be venturing out due to health and safety reasons. A meeting will be held soon with discussion on up-and-coming events as well as plans for building membership.

If you are not a member of the Legion and are qualified for membership, please consider joining. Those interested in renting the Legion Hall for an event may call Valerie Brown at 816-541-9629.

Post #63 began its membership recruiting in 1925 and was granted its charter in March of 1926 beginning with 33 members. The Post has been a contributing part of the Freedom community for 94 years and looks forward to continuing their service to the town of Freedom and community veterans.
